CLOUD9INE

Jonaid Aydi

CLOUD9INE · 24 years old

My connection to music began at the keyboard. Even as a child, I loved playing it and performing Christmas songs in front of an audience at primary school. Works by Beethoven and Mozart introduced me to my first classical pieces. I only began taking piano lessons in my early teens. Although I did not stick with them consistently at the time, I never lost my curiosity and enthusiasm for music. Today, I continue my piano studies at a professional level, working on pieces by Chopin and Schubert, among others.

As a teenager, I eventually discovered music production too, first with Ableton and later with FL Studio. Playing classical pieces increasingly sparked a desire to create something myself: my own beats, melodies and sounds in which I could recognise myself and my emotions.

During the pandemic, between lockdown and finishing school, I went through one of the most difficult periods of my life. Music gave me something to hold on to during that time. Continually creating new melodies and beats helped me express my feelings, process my experiences and find renewed inner strength. Many of the tracks created during that period are therefore deeply personal. They carry a part of what I felt and experienced back then.

What the 9 means to me

To me, the number 9 stands for completion and new beginnings. One chapter ends, and another can begin. That is exactly the idea I associate with Cloud9ine and my journey through music: Turning lived experience into sound and making room for something new.
